SMS Messaging Consent
Effective date: March 19, 2026
How We Collect SMS Consent
MoodMirror sends SMS messages only to users who explicitly opt in. Consent to receive SMS messages is not required as a condition of using MoodMirror. You may use the service without providing a phone number or enabling SMS reminders. Consent is collected in the following ways:
Self-reminders
When a user adds their phone number to their MoodMirror account and creates an SMS reminder, they are explicitly opting in to receive reminder messages. The user must:
- Provide their phone number in account settings.
- Create an SMS reminder and choose a delivery time.
- Confirm they want to receive SMS reminders.
Observer reminders
When a subject invites an observer and enables SMS reminders for that observer, the observer must accept the invitation and provide their phone number. The observer explicitly opts in by:
- Accepting the invitation to observe.
- Providing their phone number in their account settings.
- Enabling SMS reminders for the relationship.
Opt-In Confirmation
When you first enable SMS reminders, you will receive a confirmation message such as:
"MoodMirror: You've signed up for mood logging reminders. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel. Msg frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply."
Types of Messages
MoodMirror sends the following types of SMS messages:
- Opt-in confirmation: A one-time message confirming your SMS enrollment (see above).
- Mood logging reminders:A daily reminder to log your mood entry. Example: "MoodMirror: Log your mood for today. https://moodmirror.org/dashboard Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel."
- Observer reminders:A daily reminder to submit an observation about a subject. Example: "MoodMirror: Submit today's observation for Brian. https://moodmirror.org/dashboard Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel."
Message Frequency
Message frequency depends on user configuration. Typically, users receive one reminder per day per active relationship. Users control the exact schedule and can configure reminders for specific times of day.
HELP Keyword
You can text HELP to any MoodMirror number at any time. You will receive a response such as:
"MoodMirror: For support, visit https://moodmirror.org or email support@moodmirror.org. Reply STOP to unsubscribe."
Opting Out
Users can stop receiving SMS messages at any time by:
- Replying STOP to any MoodMirror SMS message.
- Disabling SMS reminders in their account settings.
- Removing their phone number from their account.
- Deleting their account.
After replying STOP, you will receive a final confirmation message and no further messages will be sent unless you re-enroll.
Cost
MoodMirror does not charge for SMS messages, but standard message and data rates from your carrier may apply.
